Does Jody Watley need any introduction? Founder member of the legendary Shalamar and an outstandly successful solo artist, Watley is in the premier league of soul and r’n’b performers. Producer and musician, New Zealand’s Mark de Clive Lowe may be from the other side of the world and a different generation, but musically the pair are right in the same spot and it’s little surprise that ‘Tonight’s The Night’ is a classy cut that’s as much jazz and soul as house, with beats that even the master Kenny Dope would be proud of. In stark contrast, rising producer Ralvero provides the radically different club version, stripping out all the pretty pieces and replacing them with a set of minimal beats a la mode to accompany a clipped vocal hook.
